German conservative Mueller, 69, who served a five-year posting as head of the powerful department responsible for church doctrine, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF), had clashed with the pope over key reform issues.

House bill to impeach Trump gains momentum after Trump's feud with 'Morning Joe'

Twenty-five Democratic lawmakers now back a bill that would give them a path to impeach President Donald Trump, Axios reported.

The bill would create an Oversight Commission on Presidential Capacity, and it appears to be based on a loophole in the 25th Amendment which allows for the president to be removed from office if the Vice President and either a majority of Trump's cabinet or a majority of Congress sign off on it.

The specific language of the relevant section of the amendment reads... Читать дальше...

A major airline is canceling hundreds of flights because of a pilot shortage it helped create

On the one hand, we're told, robots are coming to take all our jobs any day now. But then there are six million job openings in the US, and large companies in a range of industries are telling us they are running out of humans to perform labor.

The reality, of course, is somewhere in between. Automation is substituting for human labor in ways large and small. The productivity engine isn't completely broken. The volume of coal mined this year is up 17 percent, though employment... Читать дальше...

Snap is fighting to retain its identity even as it opens up to a sea of new advertisers

BusinessInsider.com

Pepsi

With a flurry of recent updates to its ad products, Snapchat is inviting marketers of all sizes to buy ads on the social app. But the company still seems intent on keeping its sanctity intact.

In other words, despite opening up its doors to the ad masses, it still wants Snapchat to look like Snapchat.

Come July, advertisers will have access to a slick new creative tool called Snapchat Publisher, which will let them create ads in less than two minutes. But before the tool is widely rolled out... Читать дальше...

The impact of the Fed's tapering on mortgages

BusinessInsider.com

At the June FOMC meeting, the Fed established a gradual reduction of its treasury and agency holdings with initial caps of USD 6B for treasuries and USD 4B for mortgage backed securities (MBS) per month. Furthermore, the Fed will increase the runoff over time to a maximum of USD 30B per month for treasuries and USD 20B per month for MBS.  Adding those numbers up, the Fed will reduce their MBS balance from roughly USD 1.8T to USD 1.0T by the end of 2021 (depending on your interest rate forecast). Silicon Valley's old boy power structure is getting toppled and the repercussions will be huge

When Chris Sacca took the stage at the South by Southwest conference in March, the "Shark Tank" judge kicked off his talk by doling out cans of beers to the women sitting in the front rows.

"We’re going to do this unlike Uber. The women get them first," Sacca said to the crowd of fans that would mob him like a celebrity afterwards.

The beer stunt was a snipe at one of his early portfolio companies that had come under internal investigation for claims of sexism in the workplace. Читать дальше...

Even the ancient Greeks thought their best days were behind them

BusinessInsider.com

Thomson Reuters

This May, Greece’s parliament passed yet another austerity bill in the hopes of securing more European debt relief.

For nearly seven and a half years, creditors have held the country in an economic stranglehold. Along the way, they’ve offered a series of lessons in adding insult to injury.

Political cartoons abroad portray Greeks as lazy, corrupt and fiscally reckless.

Comedy sketches call upon the Olympian gods to lampoon the Greek people for childish irresponsibility. Читать дальше...

To say the retail industry is changing would be an understatement. Rapidly evolving consumer habits and the rise of e-commerce have put new stresses on brick-and-mortar retail.

And as a result, lawyers are in high demand, for everything from compliance to bankruptcy.

More than a dozen major companies, including Limited Stores LLC and Payless Inc., have already declared bankruptcy this year. Others, such as Sears, Roebuck & Co. and Macy's Inc.... Читать дальше...

Mayweather and McGregor have both posted training videos that look drastically different

BusinessInsider.com

Michael Reaves/Getty Images

In August, Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor will enter the ring for what will surely be the most-watched fight of the boxing year.

Despite McGregor's reputation as one of the best strikers in mixed martial arts, people that know boxing aren't giving him much of a chance in the fight. Even Manny Pacquiao told reporters, "There is no way he will be able to land a meaningful punch on Floyd. How could he? He has no professional experience in boxing."

McGregor has been welcoming the doubters... Читать дальше...

Use a marriage therapist's 3 S's to determine if your platonic friendship has become a full-fledged emotional affair

BusinessInsider.com

Emotional infidelity is murky territory — which is why it's easy to lie to yourself about the way your relationship with a "friend" is progressing.

Yes, your heart skips a beat when you see a message from them and yes, the time you spend with your partner is starting to look increasingly dull. But it's not like you've confessed your love to each other or anything, so you're not guilty of any wrongdoing. Right? Right?!

This is where it helps to bring in someone more objective. Читать дальше...

Snapchat is holding its ground in its war with Instagram (SNAP, FB)

BusinessInsider.com

Thomson Reuters

Instagram Stories may be on the upswing, but advertisers are not entirely discounting Snapchat, at least not yet.

Since its launch in August 2016, Instagram Stories has had Snapchat in the crosshairs, and has even surpassed it in some respects. The feature, which allows users to post ephemeral stories for a 24-hour period just like Snapchat, has not only accumulated more users using it daily (250 million as of June versus Snapchat’s last reported 166 million), but also attracted a growing chunk of ad dollars. Goldman Sachs cuts its oil forecast

BusinessInsider.com

Goldman Sachs is slashing its three-month price forecast for WTI to $47.50 a barrel from $55, seeing output gains in Libya and Nigeria as jeopardizing OPEC’s efforts to reduce global inventories, so the cartel may have to cut deeper in order to prop oil prices. “This threatens to close the window of time for stocks to normalize before OPEC cuts end and raises the concerns that OPEC will then ramp up production to defend market share,” Goldman analysts Damien Courvalin and Jeff Currie said in a report, as quoted by Bloomberg. The 3 fastest ways to get rid of a painful sunburn, according to a licensed dermatologist

BusinessInsider.com

@bellebrockhoff

When you go outside, it's vital to wear sunscreen, slather on enough, apply it frequently (about once every two hours), and use the right kind.

But it's easy to forget to protect ourselves, especially as the summer months begin and we crawl out of our dark homes, schools, and offices and run toward a sunny beach.

As a result, millions of people each year are kissed by the sun's damaging ultraviolet light and get sunburns.

Sunburns are painful and can last for more than a week... Читать дальше...

It might be time for Tesla to get out of the car business (TSLA)

BusinessInsider.com

Asa Mathat | D: All Things Digital

Here's a completely heretical idea, especially on the eve of Tesla launching its long-awaited $35,000 Model 3 in July and the stock rallying almost 80% over the first half of 2017:

Tesla should think about getting out of the car business.

Crazy, right? This is the first new American automaker in decades — and investors are so bullish on it that even though it has made money in exactly two quarters since its 2010 IPO and sold less than 80,000 vehicles in 2016... Читать дальше...
