Chuck Schumer dares Trump: Show us the tapes, or admit they don't exist

BusinessInsider.com

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer implored President Donald Trump on Thursday to produce tapes of his conversations with former FBI Director James Comey, or "admit that there are no tapes."

"It's awfully curious that no one from the president's team will either confirm or deny the existence of those tapes, when the tapes are the only way to prove that Mr. Comey's testimony, which came under oath, was false or misleading," said Schumer, speaking on... Читать дальше...

While across Capitol Hill on Thursday the Senate was drawing attention for its hearing with James Comey, the fired FBI director, the House passed a bill to roll back some of the strongest Wall Street regulations from the financial crisis.

The Financial CHOICE Act, a massive bill from Republican Rep. Jeb Hensarling, the chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, would do away with many of the protections in the landmark Dodd-Frank Act.

The bill passed 233-186 with 11 abstaining. Читать дальше...

Here's the best way to see 'Wonder Woman'

BusinessInsider.com

Warner Bros.

Warning: mild spoilers.

As much as I wish I could be an Amazon, it's not possible. But watching "Wonder Woman" in 4DX was the closest I could come to making that dream come true, and it was worth it.

4DX is an immersive theater experience combining a 3-D movie with physical aspects, including moving seats, wind bursts, and misting water.

I went into "Wonder Woman" having never seen a movie in 4DX and I was slightly nervous for what was about to happen.

How to figure out how much sleep you really need

BusinessInsider.com

Business Insider / Mike Nudelman

In theory, sleep takes up about 8 out of every 24 hours, one-third of our lives. But many of us don't actually sleep that much and are tired all the time — more than a third of Americans don't get the seven to nine hours of sleep a night that the CDC recommends.

Yet we spend additional time worrying about our sleep. According to research by the National Sleep Foundation, more than a third of Americans say their sleep quality is "poor" or "only fair."

HENRY BLODGET: High valuations mean low expected returns

BusinessInsider.com

Business Insider

Henry Blodget dives deep into two charts from John Hussman. Based on many different market valuation measures, stocks are extremely expensive. Blodget does point out that stocks can always get more expensive in the short term. However, the expected long-term return on a portfolio of stocks, bonds, and cash is very low based on these valuation levels.

The rise of populist movements could end up being self-defeating

BusinessInsider.com

Thomson Reuters

Populism paradoxically is failing to reverse the factors that led to its rise, and in many cases threatens to worsen conditions. While citizens in parts of the developed world have been successful at ushering in change, it’s not clear that these changes will achieve the desired ends – chiefly because the unorthodox approaches that many of the world’s populist leaders have chosen go against the grain of what has worked throughout economic history.

Perhaps that's the point... Читать дальше...

This was back when Musk was working 100 hours per week during the launch of his companies.

Dressing for success is always a good idea.

Nowadays, that could mean wearing the same outfit to the office every day — a sort of "work uniform."

It's a concept that's been adopted by plenty of successful people. Mark Zuckerberg, Barack Obama, and Steve Jobs have all put work uniforms to use.

As the New York Times reports, assembling a standard "work uniform" allows you to streamline your routine and eliminates one more potentially stressful choice from your daily life. Читать дальше...

Comey's testimony undermined Jeff Sessions' credibility about why he recused himself

BusinessInsider.com

Associated Press/Susan Walsh

It didn't get the most attention, but one of the newsiest pieces of information to come out of Thursday's hearing with James Comey, the fired FBI director, was not about President Donald Trump, but Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

Comey gave an account of Sessions' recusal from the Russia investigation that contradicts Sessions' public statement about why he recused himself.

Comey and his FBI colleagues did not tell Sessions about Trump's improper... Читать дальше...

A US aircraft carrier is heading back to the Mediterranean to hammer ISIS

BusinessInsider.com

US Navy

After a brief absence of US aircraft carrier presence in the eastern Mediterranean, the USS George H. W. Bush will be returning to Syria's coast to hammer ISIS forces in the region.

This marks the first time the US Navy has had a carrier in the region since US guided-missile destroyers struck Syrian President Bashar Assad's air force after his regime carried out a deadly chemical weapon attack on civilians.

In the immediate aftermath of that strike on April 6, Russia... Читать дальше...

Wall Street just got some terrible news from the Comey testimony

BusinessInsider.com

Scott Olson/Getty Images

While there was plenty of news to chew on from former FBI Director James Comey's testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday, it's clear the investigation into Russia's influence on the 2016 election, and whether there was collusion with President Donald Trump's campaign, is far from over.

That means nothing good for Wall Street.

Isaac Boltansky of the political-research firm Compass Point told Business Insider that Comey's testimony... Читать дальше...

Sam Elliott is known for his deep drawl and a look that seems to be right out of a John Ford Western, thanks in large part to that mustache. But now Elliott finally has the floor to himself with his new movie, “The Hero” (in theaters on Friday). Starring as Lee Hayden, a washed-up movie star of an iconic... Читать дальше...

The INSIDER Summary: If you're looking to lose weight you should start by cutting out drinks with added sugars, like soda and fruit punches. Nutritionist Karen Ansel says beverages are our biggest source of added sugars, which are bad for you because they're processed and have no nutritional value.
