This bike dashboard lets you make calls and get directions without leaving your handlebars

BusinessInsider.com

COBI

There's arguably never been a better time to find high-tech accessories for your bike. But while most are designed to serve a single function, one company, COBI, is looking to help riders access a variety of smartphone features without ever using their hands.

Think of it as a smart dashboard for your bike. The COBI allows bikers to mount their phone on their handlebars and connect it to a controller that they use by flicking their thumb. They can adjust their music, answer phone calls... Читать дальше...

These are all the jokes Ann Coulter refused to use on the Comedy Central Roast of Rob Lowe

BusinessInsider.com

Alberto E. Rodriguez/Getty

The "Roast of Rob Lowe" aired Monday on Comedy Central, and not only did roaster Ann Coulter get a lot of insults thrown her way, but her own jokes fell flat.

Roasting Lowe with veteran stand-up talents like host David Spade and roast king Jeff Ross, the conservative commentator should have taken some of the jokes the show's writers compiled for her, as many non-comics who go on the roast do.

But Mike Lawrence, who was one of the writers for the show... Читать дальше...

THE REGTECH REPORT: Global regulatory requirements are creating a huge opportunity for regtech firms

BusinessInsider.com

BII

Financial services companies are struggling to keep up with a mountain of new regulatory and reporting requirements — and it's only going to get worse.

From the 2008 financial crisis through 2015, the annual volume of regulatory publications, changes, and announcements increased a staggering 492%. That's creating an opportunity for a swath of new companies called regtechs. Regtechs are companies that use technology to help firms decrease their regulatory burden.

In a new report from BI Intelligence... Читать дальше...

A new poll shows Trump ahead of Clinton – here's what that really means

BusinessInsider.com

Dragan Radovanovic / Business Insider

A CNN/ORC poll released Tuesday shows a tight race coming out of the Labor Day weekend. Republican nominee Donald Trump has a slight lead over Democrat Hillary Clinton:

  • Trump: 45%
  • Clinton: 43%

The pollster surveyed a random sample of 1,001 Americans. Trump's lead is within the poll's margin of error of 3.5%, so it suggests the race is essentially tied — although, as we'll see, for a candidate it's better to be ahead even within the margin of error. Читать дальше...

Alzheimer's-linked nanoparticles, found in pollution, are showing up in people's brains

BusinessInsider.com

Thomson Reuters

Toxic nanoparticles from air pollution have been discovered in human brains in abundant quantities, a newly published study reveals.

The detection of the particles, in brain tissue from 37 people, raises concerns because recent research has suggested links between these magnetite particles and Alzheimer's disease, while air pollution has been shown to significantly increase the risk of the disease. However, the new work is still a long way from proving that the air... Читать дальше...

Land the pitch, and you'll open the door to a bigger conversation that could lead to a new client, a new adviser, or maybe even new funding.

21 job-interview questions that are designed to trick you

BusinessInsider.com

Savvy hiring managers can glean a ton of information about you by asking just a few, well-chosen questions.

But while they may seem simple — that's the point — some are actually designed to get you to reveal information you may have been trying to conceal. In other words: they're trick questions.

"To uncover areas that may reflect inconsistencies, hiring managers sometimes ask these tricky questions," says Tina Nicolai, executive career coach and founder of Resume Writers' Ink. Читать дальше...

Why every weekend should be a 3-day weekend

National holidays that fall on a Monday shouldn't be the only reason Americans get three days off.

It should happen every week, simply because it's the right thing to do.

Over the last several years, a number of companies around the world have made the switch to a shortened workweek, Amazon being the most recent example.

The world's second-largest retailer announced on August 26 that a select group of part-time employees would soon only need to work 30 hours per week to earn 75% pay and full benefits. Читать дальше...

While it has felt like a long time to wait for a show, the former "Community" star and rapper feels it was just the right amount of time. But the public's knowledge of things that used to be more hidden has increased with the internet.

LARRY SUMMERS: Janet Yellen just made a call that could tarnish her legacy at the Fed

BusinessInsider.com

Larry Summers is worried about Federal Reserve Board Chair Janet Yellen.

In a piece in The Washington Post published Tuesday, Summers argues that Yellen's speech at August's Jackson Hole Symposium could rank with one of the most infamously bad calls in Fed history.

Here's Summers (emphasis mine):

"My second reason for disappointment in Jackson Hole was that Federal Reserve Board Chair Janet L. Yellen, while very thoughtful and analytic, was too complacent to... Читать дальше...

The 3 plays in sports everybody will be talking about today

BusinessInsider.com

Streeter Lecka/Getty Images

Good morning! Here are the plays everybody will be talking about on Tuesday:

Florida State overcomes ugly first half including this weird Dalvin Cook fumble. Florida State looked to be in real trouble, trailing 28-6 late in the first half and generally looking like anything but a championship contender. But a late first-half touchdown and whatever Jimbo Fisher said to them at halftime led to a second-half surge. If that had not happened, we would be looking back at this play much differently. Titled "Sacrifice," the 30-second ad depicts members of military households — including veterans with missing limbs and parents of service members killed in action — watching on television the Republican presidential nominee's more inflammatory remarks about veterans. Читать дальше...
