Nutrisystem has been around for 35 years and claims to be an easy and affordable way to lose weight. The company provides prepared food and meal plans. Its diet plans are designed as portion controlled, pre-prepared meals.

The most basic meal package is $9.64 per day, or $269.99 for a 4-week package. With this plan, customers are given a variety of food selected by Nutrisystem with the potential of losing 10 pounds and 5-inches off the waist in one month.

Wireless headphones are still way less popular than wired ones (AAPL)

BusinessInsider.com

Apple’s got a new iPhone coming tomorrow, and the biggest expected change might not be much of an “upgrade” at all: the removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack. There’s been an unhealthy amount of words spilled on why Apple wants to remove a ubiquitous standard from the most popular smartphone in the world, but the general consensus seems to be that wireless headphones are finally ready to become the norm.

These before-and-after photos show how much fast-food restaurants have changed over the years

BusinessInsider.com

Fred Vuich/AP

Fast-food chains across America are revamping their menus and re-designing their looks in order be more competitive.

Many chains are noticing they need to look more modern.

This is how some popular chains have changed over the years.

Back in 1955, McDonald's offered 15-cent hamburgers. At the time, its menu only offered nine items.

I tried working out at the swankiest gym chain to see if it's worth the money

BusinessInsider.com

Equinox

Equinox is arguably the swankiest gym chain in America.

Members pay $200 to $300 initiation fees and $160 to $250 monthly rates. They rave about the gym's amenities, which include classes taught by former Olympians and spa treatments.

While I’m content with my measly $15 a month gym, I still wondered about what it’s like to be a member of Equinox.

How tough are the classes? Do only beautiful people exercise there?

While I can’t afford its lavish prices in the long-term... Читать дальше...

18 'healthy' beverages that surprisingly contain a ton of sugar

BusinessInsider.com

Odwalla Facebook

Sugar appears in unsuspecting foods and beverages.

According to the World Health Organization, the maximum amount of sugar people should consume in a day is less than 10% of their daily caloric intake, meaning less than 50 grams for a 2,000-calorie diet.

However, the WHO strongly recommends reducing that to 5%, or roughly 25 grams.

We took a look at a few beverages that appear to be healthy to see just how much sugar they actually contain. All of the... Читать дальше...

Allergan's CEO wants to be the drug industry's good guy (AGN)

BusinessInsider.com

Allergan

Drug prices are in the national conversation again, this time with the focus on the EpiPen, an emergency injection used to treat extreme allergic reactions that has increased in cost by more than 500% since 2007.

At the heart of this debate lies a straightforward question: Who do drug companies serve — their shareholders, or patients who use the drugs?

Brent Saunders, the chief executive of Allergan — one of the largest and fastest-growing drugmakers — says the answer can be both. Читать дальше...

Russia is 'watching carefully' as Central Asia's most populous country undergoes its first transition of power in 25 years

BusinessInsider.com

Uzbekistan has long been the most stable country in a region that has struggled to establish itself on solid ground in the decades after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

But that stability could be fragile in the coming months as the country wrangles with its first transfer of power since it gained independence in 1991.

Uzbekistan announced on Friday that its longtime president, Islam Karimov, is dead; he was 78.

His health had been declining in recent years... Читать дальше...

The Democratic presidential nominee said "the list is growing" of instances where Trump did something that raises "serious questions" after news of the fine broke late last week.

The '007' bond market is changing everything

BusinessInsider.com

United Artists

Bond yields are historically low, and that's affecting every corner of the market.

To Peter Oppenheimer, a strategist at Goldman Sachs, the drop in bond yields is so intense it borders on fictional.

"Anyone linking 007 to a bond today might as easily be referring to the yield on government debt as to the synonymous fictional character," Oppenheimer wrote in a note to clients.

"Not so long ago, the idea that bond yields, and yields in general, could fall... Читать дальше...

How Vice convinces the world it's worth billions — even if its cable ratings are horrible

BusinessInsider.com

TechCrunch / Flickr

Ratings on $4-plus billion Vice’s new cable channel, Viceland US, are bad.

In fact, they are 51% worse than the channel’s previous incarnation, History’s H2, according to the Wall Street Journal. Late last month, the Journal looked at Nielsen data that showed Vice's network was averaging about 45,000 viewers, adults aged 18 to 49, in its primetime broadcast.

So the ratings are dismal.

But that doesn’t matter because Vice, and its CEO Shane Smith, play a different game than other media companies.

Why Iran is 'playing with fire' in the Persian Gulf against US Navy ships

BusinessInsider.com

USNI News Video/YouTube

For the fifth time in about a month, Iranian fast-attack craft have harassed US Navy ships with "unsafe and unprofessional" maneuvers at sea in the gulf between Saudi Arabia and Iran.

While experts acknowledge that Iran is "playing with fire" against the best navy in the world, don't expect these incidents to stop anytime soon.

"The number of unsafe, unprofessional interactions for first half of the year is nearly twice as much as same period in 2015, trend has continued. Читать дальше...

Apple's wireless headphones will use something better than Bluetooth (AAPL)

BusinessInsider.com

Apple might ditch Bluetooth and rely on a new, homemade wireless technology for the headphones in the forthcoming iPhone.

That's according to a new report by KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has an impressive track record of accurately predicting changes to Apple products. AppleInsider obtained the report.

In his note, Kuo says Apple will use a low-power "Bluetooth-like communication chip" for its wireless headphones, implying that the company won't use the standard Bluetooth technology. Читать дальше...

BusinessInsider.com

Big data startup Palantir has slapped one of its early investors with an unusual lawsuit.

The company alleges that investor Marc Abramowitz learned about new business ideas from Palantir and then went out and tried to patent those ideas for himself.

In its suit, first spotted by Law.com, the company says that Abramowitz was an early investor in Palantir, backing the company in 2005. Palantir was founded in 2004.

The company alleges that three of Abramowitz's patent applications... Читать дальше...

The weirdest superstitions around the world

BusinessInsider.com

Shutterstock

Full disclosure: I’m very superstitious. I regularly go out of my way to knock on real wood. I can never remember which shoulder I’m supposed to throw spilled salt over, but I’ll always toss a pinch over both for good measure (and then once again in case that last side was the wrong one ). I'm so superstitious that I tend to collect new superstitions wherever I go. To this day, I refuse to let my purse touch the floor because, years ago, an extremely expressive Polish woman... The protesters stood in front of his parent's Sugarcreek Township, Ohio home carrying signs that read “Castrate rapists,” and, “If I rape Brock will I only do 3 months?” Buzzfeed News reported.

Some protesters were armed, and menacing threats, such as "Shoot your local rapist" and "We don't forgive... Читать дальше...

A massive solar storm could wipe out almost all of our modern technology — and we’d have just hours to prepare

BusinessInsider.com

NASA

In 1859, an invisible wave crashed into the Earth.

Electrons, swept up like so much detritus in the magnetic current, coursed along telegraph wires. When they met an obstacle, like the hand of a telegraph operator, they crashed through it — delivering a sharp shock. Papers in telegraph offices caught fire. Even with batteries disconnected, operators found the giddy subatomic stream could carry their messages over vast distances. Lights danced in the sky.

It was the largest solar storm ever recorded. Читать дальше...
