The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said overnight on Thursday at least 28 people, including seven children, died in air strikes on... Читать дальше...

Phil Mickelson's golf ball has left the building.

Mickelson's second round at the PGA Championship got off to a horrible start when his opening drive on the first hole went out of bounds and then bounded down a side street, never to be seen again.

If you look closely, you can see the ball bouncing down the side street that leads away from the course.

Amazingly, things only got worse from there. Mickelson took a second drive, and this one went way to the right... Читать дальше...

BusinessInsider.com

Thomson Reuters

Amazon disclosed in its latest quarterly filing that it discovered an additional sales of products worth $120,000 to Iranian government officials.

The company said it will stop selling to the accounts that made those purchases. The new amount is separate from the Iranian embassies' $110... Читать дальше...

The creators of Pokémon Go hint they'll be shutting down the game's most useful apps

BusinessInsider.com

Thomson Reuters

John Hanke, the CEO of Pokémon Go developer Niantic, hinted in an interview with Forbes' Ryan Mac that popular fan-made tools like PokéVision, Poké Radar, and Poké Notify may not be long for this world.

Here's what Hanke has to say about those apps (emphasis ours):

"Yeah, I don't really like that. Not a fan. We have priorities right now but they might find in the future that those things may not work.

"People are only hurting themselves because it takes some fun out of the game. Читать дальше...

22 jobs where people make far more now than they would have 10 years ago

BusinessInsider.com

AT&T

It's to be expected that with the rising cost of living, pay increases would follow suit.

This, however, isn't always the case, as some occupations see significant drops in wages but others see significantly bigger increases than one might expect.

To find the careers with the biggest boost in salary over a decade, we took a look at the US Bureau of Labor Statistics' occupational-employment and wages data from 2005 and 2015, adjusted the 2005 wage data for inflation... Читать дальше...

NASA's getting ready to plunge a spacecraft deeper into the sun than ever before

BusinessInsider.com

NASA

NASA is one step closer in its mission to “touch” the sun. Last week, it announced that the Solar Probe Plus mission had passed a huge milestone, keeping it on track for a 2018 launch.

The Solar Probe Plus mission will start with the launch of a spaceship that will complete 24 orbits of the sun. Then, after completing seven flybys of Venus to get closer and closer, the spacecraft will dive into the corona, or the outer atmosphere of the sun.

The three closest orbits will... Читать дальше...

The way millionaires view money is different from everyone else

BusinessInsider.com

Doesn’t it seem like the rich keep getting richer while the middle class is stuck in the same old spot?

Economic inequality is a hot topic right now, and many people go as far as accusing the wealthy of having some sort of unfair advantage. Those are easy accusations to make, and they resonate well with some people. But the truth is, there are no unfair advantages.

Everyone has the same opportunity to acquire wealth.

The biggest thing... Читать дальше...

Russell Westbrook had a vague but curious reaction when asked about Kevin Durant signing with the Warriors

BusinessInsider.com

Ezra Shaw/Getty

Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook has not publicly commented on Kevin Durant's decision to join the Golden State Warriors.

The silence has left the NBA world to speculate about Westbrook's future and his reaction to Durant's decision — which is presumably not happy.

On Thursday, Westbrook may have confirmed theories he's not pleased with Durant's decision.

A Facebook user named Aijalon O SoGmfe posted a video of himself next to Westbrook in an unclear location ... Читать дальше...

Turkey slams the US over 'taking sides with the coup plotters'

BusinessInsider.com

Thomson Reuters

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — Turkey's president slammed the United States on Friday, claiming it was not standing firmly against a failed military coup and accused it of harboring the plot's alleged mastermind, as a government crackdown in the coup's aftermath strained Turkey's ties with key allies.

Turkey has demanded the United States extradite Fethullah Gulen, a cleric living in self-imposed exile in Pennsylvania whom it accuses of being behind the violent July 15 coup attempt that left 290 people dead. Читать дальше...

You're eating a lot of fake, rotten olive oil — here's how to find the real stuff

BusinessInsider.com

Shutterstock/tetxu

Olive oil is perhaps one of the most delightful food staples on the planet.

But unfortunately, it's also one of the most commonly counterfeited foods.

As Larry Olmsted, author of the new book "Real Food/Fake Food: Why You Don't Know What You're Eating and What You Can Do about It," explained to Tech Insider in a recent interview, this is a real problem because people buy olive oil both for its amazing flavor and health benefits.

So if you're not getting the real thing... Читать дальше...

The first estimate on second-quarter GDP was a big disappointment on Friday.

The US economy grew at just a 1.2% annualized rate for the three months ended June 30, less than the 2.5% expected by economists.

THE FALSE DECLINES REPORT: The $8.6 billion problem undermining e-commerce merchants' fraud prevention strategies

BusinessInsider.com

BI Intelligence

E-commerce merchants are dealing with rising fraud, and in response, they're putting stronger safeguards in place to try to protect against these unlawful transactions. However, e-commerce companies often over-correct for the threat of fraud, leading to false declines, also known as false positives, which occur when a legitimate transaction is rejected.

These false declines are becoming a costlier problem than actual fraud — US e-commerce merchants will lose $8.6 billion in falsely declined transactions in 2016... Читать дальше...

32 eerie photos of the abandoned venues from the 2004 Athens Olympics

BusinessInsider.com

AP

The Olympic Games are about to begin in Rio de Janeiro, but what will happen once they're over?

The deserted Olympic venues in Athens might offer a clue.

Unlike the 1984 Sarajevo Olympic venues, which were destroyed during the Bosnian War, there was no catastrophic event that led to the abandonment of the Athens arenas.

Greece simply has no use for world-class, expensive-to-maintain venues for niche sports like softball, beach volleyball, or even swimming. They became... Читать дальше...

Reuters/Chris Keane

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A U.S. appeals court on Friday struck down a North Carolina law that required voters to show photo identification when casting their ballots in the November election, ruling that it discriminated against African-American residents.

The ruling is likely to be seen as a boost for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton in a state that is politically important as it does not lean heavily toward either Democrats or Republicans. Clinton... Читать дальше...

Designed by Polo Ralph Lauren, the outfits are a mix of the designer's sporty and preppy style. The athletes will be outfitted in navy blazers — complete with Ralph Lauren's signature logo — a striped T-shirt, white denim jeans, and boat shoes, obviously in red, white, and blue. Читать дальше...

16 different ways people drink coffee around the world

BusinessInsider.com

Courtesy of Meng Lee

People the world over follow a very similar ritual: wake up, grab a cup of coffee.

Where the ritual diverts, however, is in the coffee's preparation, and sometimes its ingredients.

For instance, Americans probably wouldn't consider pepper, lemon, and cheese appropriate java mix-ins, but in other cultures these are the norm.

Here's a breakdown of how coffee is drunk around the world.
