The Tottenham full-back has served the club for a strong and eventful 12 years and it was recently revealed that Danny Rose, and fellow Spurs’ team-mates Vincent Janssen and Georges-Kevin Nkoudou were given time off “in order to explore prospective opportunities with other clubs.”

Danny Rose is a player who has been notoriously known to speak his mind to the mainstream media, becoming a fan favourite at White Hart Lane and especially with me. Rose is someone who I can relate to massively as a fan – a connection which I’ve lacked as a Spurs supporter for some time now.

Danny famously spoke to the Sun about “Googling players” – This was Rose showing how he related to the fans, he shared a view that many supporters of Tottenham had at the time.

The fullback also claimed in the same interview: “Time is running out, and I do want to win trophies. I don’t want to play football for 15 years and not have one trophy or medal.” 

Again, this is a sensitive topic among the Tottenham faithful. The club is currently going through its biggest trophy drought since World War Two, and supporters understood his frustration.

The interview took place not so long after the sore departure of Kyle Walker to Manchester City, with some Spurs fans believing that Walker had left for trophies, joining possibly the best team in English football at the time. 

It is becoming a problem with myself too, the fact that our last major trophy came back in 2008 is simply not good enough, hence why I relate to Rose so much.

The comments received a positive reaction with certain supporters, but others certainly didn’t appreciate the out-of-the-blue interview.

Even going through the pain of Wembley being our temporary home, he came out and said to the press (Guardian): “It’s lost its… I don’t feel it’s an honour to play at Wembley. We’re all itching to get into the new stadium hopefully it’s not much longer.”

He continued to speak about how he felt for the fans travelling up to Wembley week in week out, speaking for how most fans felt at that moment in time.

Rose, with the help of Mauricio Pochettino, is now arguably back to his best after some tough times on and off the pitch. After an extremely strong and satisfying season, he was the ideal player who represented the roles & responsibilities of a modern fullback in Pochettino’s system. 

The various interviews by Rose have left good and bad tastes in the mouths of some Spurs supporters but now the England international is even a ‘spokesperson’ for racism in the modern game and is an inspiration for any youngsters who have suffered from such abuse (BBC).

A player like Danny Rose is not a traditional “modern” player, hence why he is so highly regarded and loved at the North London club, especially with the older generation of fans.

Typically, players keep quiet about political, social, and club issues, Danny, however, won’t put up with anything that he believes is wrong without voicing an opinion.

He has also battled with depression, revealing that his uncle committed suicide whilst Rose was in rehab, this news came right in the middle of an unfortunate knee injury (Telegraph). Rose’s brother was also nearly shot to death and, to add to all of that, his mother received racial abuse in Doncaster. However, the footballer overcame these issues off the pitch and stands strong to this day, even speaking out and helping those going through similar situations.

I believe strongly that Danny Rose deserves his place in this Tottenham side regardless, he has stuck through thick and thin for 12 years, becoming one of the longest-serving players in the Premier League. 

Once Rose crosses that white line, there is not a game in existence where he doesn’t leave everything on that pitch. Passion is fused into Danny’s veins.

After the 2-0 win of Arsenal in the Carabao Cup in the Christmas period, he launched an attack on Emery’s side saying they “Fully deserved what they got” and that the whole team was motivated by the “Nonsense” Arsenal had plastered all over social media after the 4-2 win over us. He then continued the interview and truthfully said: “Karma’s a… you know.” (Telegraph).

Stuff like that I just love from a player who represents my club, it is priceless in today’s game. 

Once the new stadium arrived, and Son Heung-Min opened the scoring, Rose collapsed in joy and utter relief. He simply knelt down on the ground on his own and lived in the moment, showing his love for the club.

Since Rose’s slight downgrade in consistent availability, he’s lost the athleticism of his old self and the departure of Walker has really taken away our trademark fullbacks who were renowned for pure pace and attacking potency. For that reason, I could understand some people’s thought to revamp the fullback area completely. Furthermore, I can understand Rose wanting to go back up North.

To conclude, if Pochettino does want to sell him, I do believe it is the wrong decision, despite my love and backing for the Argentine.  

Rose’s recent comments also displayed that he is “prepared for whatever happens” (Sky Sports) and therefore I’m praying that we see the experienced left-back in a Tottenham shirt next season.
