Shares of General Electric Co. surged 2.0% in premarket trade Monday, after the industrial conglomerate agreed to merge its GE Transportation unit with rail operator Wabtec Corp. in a deal valued at $11.1 billion. A magistrate has upheld a request for an inquiry into the Daphne Project revelations that $1.6 million was wired to a "target client" of Panama companies owned by Keith Schembri and Konrad Mizzi. The request was made by former Nationalist Party leader Simon Busuttil and MEP David Casa who had filed a court application seeking to have Mr Schembri and Dr Mizzi subjected to a magisterial inquiry. In their application, the two said that the revelations were a "clear example" of money laundering and corruption and must be investigated by the courts.
