A new UK-Poland defense treaty is expected to be proposed by the UK at a bilateral summit in Warsaw. The treaty will be only the second such bilateral agreement between Britain and a European ally.

British PM Theresa May is to visit Poland for a bilateral summit in the midst of a brewing crisis between Warsaw and Brussels which could strip the country of its voting rights at the EU level. While the EU has threatened Poland with sanctions, the PM is set to propose a new defense treaty boosting UK-Poland cooperation amidst tough Brexit talks.

Taxi drivers in Sofia are preparing to protest today. Industry wants to raise tariffs. Yellow car drivers insist on a minimum daily cost for passenger transport of BGN 1. They want the night rate to be 1.14 leva. 20% of taxis are blocked because of bureaucracy, say the industry. Currently, large companies are traveling at BGN 0.79 per day and at BGN 0.90 per night. A Philippine ferry carrying 251 people capsized Thursday off an island south of Manila, the capital, a coast guard spokesman said, amid a storm bringing heavy downpours. Three people were killed in the accident, domestic radio said. Rescue operations were hampered by bad weather and huge waves caused by a typhoon in the south. Coast guard boats and army helicopters rushed to the vicinity of Polilio island in the province of Quezon to rescue passengers, taking advantage of daylight, spokesman Armand Balilo said on television. Four people are confirmed dead and 81 others are missing after Thursday's capsizing of a ferry off a remote island in the Philippines. A dog full of shotgun pellets has been received by the Association of Abandoned Animals, which is hoping to help the animal get better. The dog, which the association named Ġorġ, was received by the shelter with a gaping wound in his back and other small wounds around his body. An X-ray established the animal had been shot and it had pellets all over his body.The vet could not even try to remove them.
