The only hotel in the world that lets you sleep in two countries at the same time
If you’re trying to tick as many countries as possible off your ‘places I want to visit’ list, this might be the most efficient option for a single night’s stay.
The Hotel Arbez is a bed and breakfast with a twist: it’s the only hotel in the world that’s in two countries at the same time, Metro.co.uk reports.
It sits right on the French-Swiss border in the village of La Cure. It goes right through the hotel and even runs through some of the rooms.
Which means that if you sleep in one of those rooms, you’ll technically be sleeping in two countries at the same time.
As well as being really bloody cool in terms of the gimmick factor, the Hotel Arbez also has a really rich history.
It was originally built before the border between France and Switzerland came into effect in 1862, and started out as a grocery shop. Much later during World War II it became a shelter for refugees and French Resistance fighters (thanks to its neutral location).
Then in 1921, Jules-Jean Arbeze bought the spot and transformed it into his hotel.
And voila. The first ever hotel that’s in two countries at the same time was born.
Today, the hotel is a popular spot for tourists, who likely want to jump around doing the ‘and now I’m in France. And NOW I’m in Switzerland’ trick.
