New election law improves supervision of election process – CEC chairman
Armenia’s new election law envisages mechanisms to control the election process, Tigran Mukuchyan, Chairman of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), told Tert.am.
Asked if the new election law complicates calculation procedures for the CEC, Mr Mukuchyan said:
“Votes are counted at polling stations and the ballot-boxes are sealed. Boxes are opened during the re-count of votes.
“The new election law envisages both electronic identification and electoral roll and stickers, which are the bases for comprehensive conclusions. This mechanism makes supervision of the election process possible,” Mr Mukuchyan said.
As regards opposition political forces’ statements that the equipment may not identify fingerprints, Mr Mukuchyan said that international experience has been considered.
