Karabakh bliezkrieg good reason to revise attitudes – Hovik Abrahamyan
The four-day war which erupted over Nagorno-Karabakh in early April is a good reason for the authorities to revise their policies and attitudes, Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan said today, urging more active work by the government institutions.
In a statement delivered at the cabinet meeting, the premier also referred to Presdient Serzh Sargsyan’s February 12 speech calling for re-establishing social solidarity and justice in Armenia as a key guarantee for security reinforcement.
“Do we really develop? Do we fight corruption or have an efficient army? The answer is yes. But is all this enough for us to confront more challenges? I think I will reiterate everybody’s opinion if I say no,” he said.
The premier stressed the need of doubling and tripling efforts to increase the efficiency of the Government’s work to the state’s benefit.
“Yes, our resources are limited, but to my deepest conviction, it is possible to compensate the losses relying on two factors: application of effective models and the speed of bringing them to life,” he added.
Abrahamyan also announced the Government’s plan to initiate weekly discussions in mid-May to address the existing problems and challenges, and consider solutions.
He asked all those cabinet members having proposals to submit them to Vache Gabrielyan, Minister-Chief of Staff at the Government, for future consideration.
“I find it important to mention that the Diaspora has conducted remarkably interesting studies on the future trends of Armenia’s development. A fair example of this is the report “Armenians in 2115”, published recently by Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
“Those discussions are not, of course, self-declared. Any discussion will, within a short period, translate itself into specific actions, government decisions and legal initiatives,” he added.
