Not withstanding the impertinence of Richard Macey in yesterday's column (regarding the allegedly superior editing of Column 8 by previous wordsmiths), we have this to hand. "I've read in a Wikipedia article that the Granny column was so called due to the 'Granny' perhaps editing it. Well in fact, my mother, Meg (Myrtle Emily Grigg) Deamer, suggested it to Sydney Deamer when he asked for ideas as to what to call his new column in the Herald in 1947.
