Dallas-area voters opt to close troubled school bus agency

DALLAS (AP) — Voters have decided to close a government school bus agency in Dallas that's been beset by deep financial troubles and questionable business dealings. Minneapolis elects transgender woman to City Council

Trump requests 4th missile defense field for Fort Greely

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) — President Donald Trump's administration has asked Congress to fund a fourth missile defense silo field at Fort Greely in Alaska. Murder suspect arrested after 100-mile California chase

GORMAN, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a murder suspect was arrested after a wild police chase that stretched more than 100 miles across Southern California. Police in San Bernardino County say the pursuit began Wednesday after the suspect was spotted driving near where a woman was shot to death in Upland. The suspect sped through red lights and led police and then California Highway Patrol officers on a chase on surface streets and freeways. Report: One-third of doctors not checking opioid database

BOSTON (AP) — The Massachusetts Department of Public Health says about a third of doctors are not checking the state's opioid tracking system when they write prescriptions, despite a new law mandating them to do so. The Boston Herald reports that in the first six months of 2017, 6,200 of the 18,700 doctors who wrote prescriptions didn't search the prescription tracking system, known as MassPAT. Actor Ed Westwick under investigation for sex assault report

2 security checkpoints at Phoenix airport closed

PHOENIX (AP) — Officials have closed two security checkpoints Wednesday morning at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. The airport says on its Twitter account that two checkpoints in terminal four were closed. Passengers can continue using the two remaining checkpoints in the terminal. The cause of the closure is unknown. An email sent to the airport seeking an explanation on the closure wasn't immediately returned Wednesday morning.
