Giants acquire Tampa Bay star Evan Longoria
The Giants, unable to swing a deal for Giancarlo Stanton this month, struck Wednesday, acquiring longtime Tampa Bay third baseman Evan Longoria. The deal, first reported by the Tampa Bay Times, will send infielder Christian Arroyo to the Rays, along with outfielder Denard Span, in order to offset some of Longoria’s salary. Pitchers Stephen Woods and Matt Krook also are heading to Tampa Bay, The Chronicle has confirmed. Yahoo’s Jeff Passan was first to report Arroyo’s inclusion in the deal, and Ken Rosenthal of the Athletic reported that there is additional cash coming back to the Giants to help cover Longoria’s massive contract.
