Warriors ‘really happy’ with Damian Jones’ development in G League
SANTA CRUZ — Sometimes at night, when he watches Golden State on his TV at Santa Cruz’s Beach Street Inn and Suites, Damian Jones feels a bit strange: Those are his teammates on the screen, yet he has barely been with them all season.
A crowded frontcourt has left the defending NBA champions with little use for the 7-foot, 245-pound Jones, a low-post project at age 22. The Santa Cruz Warriors, Golden State’s G League affiliate, offer him much-needed playing time.
Two months ago, when Jones realized he would spend much of his second professional season toiling in a lesser league, he was admittedly disappointed. It seemed a demotion.
