American Airlines 3Q profit soars on cheaper jet fuel

«Seattle Post-Intelligencer» (seattlepi.com)

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — A big merger and cheaper jet fuel are doing wonders for American Airlines. The world's biggest airline reported Friday that net income jumped 80 percent to $1.69 billion in the third quarter thanks to a huge drop in fuel spending. The shares fell, however, after American leaders said that next year they will introduce new fares designed to compete with discount carriers including Spirit and Frontier. Bradley Cooper rolls up his sleeves for 'Burnt'

«Seattle Post-Intelligencer» (seattlepi.com)

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Bradley Cooper wasn't a novice to the kitchen when he decided to take on the role of the fictional Michelin star chef Adam Jones in "Burnt." «Seattle Post-Intelligencer» (seattlepi.com)

BEIJING (AP) — The Chinese central bank's move Friday to cut interest rates for a sixth time in a year reflects enduring concern about the world's second-largest economy. The announcement Friday of a rate cut by the People's Bank of China came after growth had slowed to a six-year low of 6.9 percent in the latest quarter, according to official figures, dragged down by weak global demand and Beijing's effort to reduce reliance on construction and heavy industry. The ruling Communist Party is trying... Читать дальше...

Review: Amazon's cheap Fire tablet does a lot for $50

«Seattle Post-Intelligencer» (seattlepi.com)

[...] it works well as a budget device for the basics — reading, Facebook, video and, of course, shopping on Amazon. The new Fire tablet is Amazon's cheapest yet, joining a fall lineup that maxes out at $230 ($15 more if you want Amazon to remove ads on the lock screen). The Fire started shipping again Thursday after a limited run quickly sold out, despite these trade-offs: [...] this is reasonable for budget devices, as they use older, larger components to cut costs.
