A U.S. official, who was not authorized to speaking publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity, told The Associated Press in July that it showed the plane was brought down by a BUK surface-to-air missile launched from a village under the control of the rebels. The Safety Board said last year that the Boeing 777 was likely brought down by "multiple high-energy objects," an apparent reference to fragments from a missile warhead, but it stopped short of identifying a missile strike as the cause.

RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — An aircraft manufacturer has donated a 20-foot-long airplane part valued at $500,000 to the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology to support education and research efforts. Airbus Americas president Barry Eccleston says the company sees the donation as in investment in its future because the school will use the elevator for teaching and research.

HONOLULU (AP) — Hawaii officials on Wednesday reopened world-renowned Waikiki beach after water quality tests showed bacteria levels there declined since a large sewage spill nearby earlier this week. Keith Kawaoka, the deputy director of the state Department of Health, said his agency had authorized Honolulu to take down warning signs from Waikiki and Ala Moana beaches.
