Mirzoyan: Azerbaijan perceived equality sign as an encouragement
He said about it at the meeting with the heads of the diplomatic representations accredited in Armenia.
“It is obvious that these actions were preceded by very clear anti-Armenian, xenophobic, aggressive statements by the Azerbaijani authorities for months, open threats of use of force, encroachments, aspirations, ambitions, as well as the so-called “corridor logic,” the statements about having a corridor, including direct statements about taking a corridor with the use of force,” Ararat Mirzoyan said.
He said that Azerbaijan’s behavior is the consequence of the fact that international partners and the international community in general did not respond properly and in a targeted way to the use of force by Azerbaijan during the aggression launched against Nagorno Karabakh on September 27 last year and then during these months.
“Our conviction is that the response of the international community to all the provocative, aggressive statements and actions was not targeted and appropriate. The continuing statements with sign of equality between the parties were directly perceived by Azerbaijan as an encouragement to continue this behavior. We expect that our partner and brother countries will immediately and in a targeted way respond to these actions and use their influence directly on Azerbaijan to urge to stop the provocative actions and encroachments on the Republic of Armenia,” the minister said.
The minister informed that within the framework of the UN Charter and all bilateral and multilateral agreements, Armenia reserves the right to defend its territorial integrity and sovereignty. And from now on, the entire responsibility for the further tension of the situation falls directly on Azerbaijan.
“Our conviction is that Azerbaijan is trying to divert the attention of the international community from the Nagorno Karabakh conflict by shifting the tension on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border. I would like to emphasize once again that Armenia will defend both its territorial integrity and the right of the Armenians of Nagorno Karabakh to self-determination,” Mirzoyan said.
