Armenia’s new Chief of General Staff: Army will be politically neutral
“Following the heroic and selfless fight in the 44-day war, the Armed Forces of Armenia fulfill and will continue to fulfill their duties in reassessment and strengthening of security of Armenia and Artsakh as well as in neutralizing external threats.
The situation caused by the well-known statement of the General Staff is resolved and the disagreements are moved to the legal domain.
The Constitution places the status of the Armed Forces as under the control of the government and the civil supervision; therefore, the Armed Forces will maintain neutrality in political affairs, being guided exclusively by the duty to ensure the defense, security, territorial integrity and inviolability of borders of the Republic of Armenia.”
