Shares of TJX Companies fell 1.4% in premarket trading Wednesday, after the off-price apparel and home fashions retailer reported fiscal second-quarter profit that rose above expectations, while same-store sales fell more than forecast as "historically high inflation" hurt consumer spending, particularly for home goods. Net income for the quarter to July 30 rose to $809.3 million, or 69 cents a share, from $785.7 million, or 64 cents a share, in the year-ago period. Cresco Labs Inc. said Wednesday its second-quarter loss increased to $8.3 million from $2.65 million in the year-ago period. The company did not provide a loss per share figure. The Geo Group Inc. said Wednesday it has received the required consents from its secured and unsecured creditors to close a series of transactions that will extend the maturities of debt that comes due in 2023, 2024 and 2026. The real estate investment trust, that specializes in prisons, said it expects the deals to close on Friday, Aug. 19. Shares of Target Corp. slumped 2.3% in premarket trading Wednesday, after the discount retailer reported fiscal second-quarter profit that fell well short of expectations, as higher markdown rates led to lower gross margins, but revenue that topped forecasts. Data from a trial seeking to determine whether multiple injections of a tuberculosis vaccine developed in the 1900s could protect high-risk diabetes patients from COVID produced some positive results, according to a New York Times report.
