U.S. home builders started construction on homes at a seasonally-adjusted annual rate of roughly 1.79 million in March, representing a 0.3% increase from the upwardly-revised figures for the previous month, the U.S. Census Bureau reported Tuesday. Shares of Prologis Inc. rallied 2.5% in premarket trading Tuesday, after the logistics-focused real estate investment trust reported first-quarter earnings that beat expectations, and raised its full-year outlook, citing "record demand" amid continued supply-chain challenges. American Campus Communities Inc. on Tuesday confirmed a report by The Wall Street Journal that it agreed to be acquired by Blackstone Group Inc. in a deal that values the student housing company at about $12.8 billion including debt. The Popeyes fried chicken chain announced plans to open more than 200 new locations in the U.S. and Canada this year. That would follow the 208 restaurant launches in 2021, the company said, and grow the more than 3,000 locations Popeyes already has. Popeyes reopened its New Orleans flagship in March, and will open a location in New York's Times Square this year. Shares of Moderna Inc. were down 2.2% in premarket trading on Tuesday after the company said its bivalent COVID-19 booster candidate generated two times the antibodies against the beta and omicron variants for at least six months when compared with Moderna's already approved booster shot. Moderna's experimental bivalent booster is a mix of an omicron-specific booster and the COVID-19 vaccine, which is based on the original strain of the virus. Travelers Cos. Inc. shares rose 1.1% premarket Tuesday, after the insurer posted better-than-expected first-quarter earnings, as lower catastrophe losses and a positive underwriting result offset lower investment income. The New York-based company posted net income of $1.018 billion, or $4.15 a share, for the quarter, up from $733 million, or $2.87 a share, in the year-earlier period. Shares of Halliburton Co. fell 2.0% in premarket trading Tuesday, to pull back from a 3 1/2-year high in the previous session, even after the oil services company reported first-quarter profit and revenue that rose just above expectations. Net income rose to $263 million, or 29 cents a share, from $170 million, or 19 cents a share, in the year-ago period. Johnson & Johnson lifts dividend but cuts earnings outlook

Johnson & Johnson said Tuesday it is raising its quarterly dividend by 6.6%, to $1.13 a share from $1.06 a share. The new dividend will be payable June 7 to shareholders of record on May 24. Based on Monday's stock closing price of $177.66, the new annual dividend rate implies a dividend yield of 2.54%, which compares with the implied yield for the S&P 500 of 1.44%. J&J's stock has gained 3.9% year to date through Monday, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average has slipped 5.3%.
