Shares of SunEdison Inc. skidded late Wednesday after the solar developer said it has suspended quarterly dividends on its preferred shares. The payments will accrue in arrears and the board will reassess its dividend policy going forward, SunEdison said in a statement. The company had announced plans to restructure its business last month amid an ongoing weakness in the energy market. Shares plunged 12% in after-hours trading after jumping 19% in the regular session.

Sina Corp. late Wednesday reported its fourth-quarter earnings fell to $14.6 million, or 21 cents a share, from $59.8 million, or 90 cents a share, a year earlier. On an adjusted basis, the Chinese online company would have earned 35 cents a share. Revenue rose 21% to $256.2 million. Hess Corp. said late Wednesday that Chairman Mark Williams has retired effective immediately due to health reasons. To succeed Williams, the board chose James Quigley, former chief executive of Deloitte and current board member, as chairman. Shares of Hess rose 0.2% to $47 in after-hours activity.

Pure Storage Inc. shares jumped nearly 6% late Wednesday after the Mountain View, Calif., storage company narrowed a quarterly loss. Pure Storage said it lost $44.3 million, or 23 cents a share, in the fourth quarter, compared with a loss of $47.6 million, or $1.52 a share, in the year-ago period. Revenue reached $150.2 million, from $65.9 million in the year-ago quarter. WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) - The White House is vetting Jane Kelly, a federal appellate judge who spent her career as a public defender in Iowa, as a potential nominee for the Supreme Court, the New York Times reported Wednesday. U.S. stocks finished higher Wednesday as oil prices stabilized. The Dow industrials gained 33.48 points, or 0.2%, to 16,898.56. The S&P 500 added 8.03 cents, or 0.4%, to 1,986.38, while the Nasdaq Composite gained 13.83 points, or 0.3%, to 4,703.42. Chesapeake Energy Corp was the leading stock on the S&P, up 67 cents, or 24%, to $3.42. Monsanto Co. was the largest decliner, shedding $7.35, or 7.9%, to $85.22.
