The head of state was in Red Square in Moscow in the morning on 9 May to see a parade in honor of the 79th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. He watched it next to the veteran Yekaterina Yevdokimova.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “He is a patriotic normal person. This is why I will definitely look into his application to me. We will examine all the matters and I will definitely look into his application.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “It is a trend [when officials flee Poland]. Some say that we and Russians recruit such people, that these people are our agents, are our employees. Total nonsense! I saw this person only when he was hosting a press conference. He is an absolutely normal person.”

Commenting on the ongoing exercise designed to practice the employment of non-strategic nuclear weapons, the head of state came up with a simple analogy: you have to keep an assault rifle in good order if you want it to fire. And it is necessary to practice firing it if you want to fire well.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “They need something. The U.S. dollar is about to crash. What will happen then? Their entire economy is built around printing these dollars. They say that a lot of money results in inflation. They don’t care. We bear the cost of this inflation. And so it is the scariest thing for them.”

The head of state remarked that it was not the first time he had been asked a question about the parade in Red Square. His Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin was the first person to ask this question. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu asked the same question some time later.

“We urge our kids and grandkids to hold sacred the truth about that war as the greatest value. For us it is a symbol of the unbreakable link between generations, one of the foundations of the spiritual unity and solidarity of the nation,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

“Manipulations are futile if people have brains of their own. External challenges and attempts to put pressure on our country have resulted in stronger Belarus. We will do everything to discourage thinking about testing it in practice,” the president stressed.

“Our memory and truth act as a reliable shield in the way of chaos and ideas of supremacy bent on world domination. They immunize us against false ideas and covert manipulations. They represent a beacon in the sea of challenges and threats of modern age,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.

“We should do everything to prevent World War Three. Otherwise, a nuclear apocalypse will be unavoidable. All of us have to unite for this purpose,” the president stated.

The victory in May 1945 brought invaluable peace to humanity, however, not everyone liked that, the president remarked. “Our former allies pictured themselves as the sole vanquishers of Hitler’s Germany,” the Belarusian leader pointed out.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “Belarus needs peace. Tomorrow. In a year. Always. It is important for us to endure and stay out of conflicts. Time has chosen us. We have been chosen to preserve the independence of our land and everything created by many generations before us.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “The Great Victory is the central and key moment in the history of revival and establishment of the Belarusian nation. Today its lessons allow taking a glimpse of the future if one remembers and knows the past."

The head of state laid a wreath at the Victory Monument in Minsk. Personally taking part in the wreath-laying ceremony is a tradition the president observes every year.

The Russian president said: “We worked for a very long time together yesterday. We parted rather late.” “At three in the morning as always,” Aleksandr Lukashenko clarified. “Yes, at three o’clock,” the Russian leader confirmed.

Vladimir Putin said: “Since non-strategic nuclear weapons are deployed in Belarus’ territory, this time we’ve invited our friends, allies to take part in one stage of this exercise. The Belarus president had requested it. We hold such exercises regularly."

In 2024 Belarusians celebrate a glorious jubilee - the 80th anniversary of the republic’s liberation from Nazi invaders. “This special date is a good occasion to remind the whole world about tenacity in the face of common threats,” the president noted.

The congratulatory message reads: “This sacred holiday fills our hearts with great joy and immeasurable gratitude to the Soviet nation, which crushed fascism and saved the future of humanity at the cost of millions of lives."

The leaders of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Cuba, Laos, and Guinea-Bissau are also expected to attend the parade. President of Russia Vladimir Putin will make a speech in front of participants and guests of the parade.

Today Belarus is celebrating Victory Day, one of the most important holidays in the history of the country. For Belarusians this is a sacred holiday, a day of remembrance, utmost respect and gratitude to Soviet soldiers, homefront workers, underground resistance fighters, to all those who made the victory possible.
