For nearly four decades, he was the only leader Zimbabweans ever knew – but his tenure was marked by violent repression, increasing poverty, and unrest. He was forced to resign in 2017. At the time of his death, Robert Mugabe was 95.

Pam Mobley and Joann Coakley were FaceTiming with their husbands back home when Hurricane Dorian struck. The two best friends couldn't get in touch with their family for another 48 hours – and back home, their husbands were glued to the television for 20 hours a day desperately looking for answers. The women were rescued and flown home on Thursday. Nikki Battiste reports.

When he started vomiting and was gasping for breath, his mother drove him to the hospital where he went straight to intensive care. Dean Reynolds reports.

Hurricane Dorian is taking its last shot at the U.S. after marching through the Caribbean and up the southeast coast. North Carolina is the target of Dorian's wrath on Friday. Dorian was downgraded to a Category 1 overnight, but it's less than 20 miles off the coast with 90 mph winds. It's causing life-threatening flash floods and up to six feet in storm surge. In the Bahamas, the storm has been blamed for at least 30 deaths. Jonathan Vigliotti reports.

Hurricane Dorian gave coastal South Carolina a beating on Thursday. On Friday morning, Charleston is beginning to survey the damage. Dorian's eye passed within 55 miles of the city, bringing heavy rain and wind gusts of more than 70 mph. Jamie Yuccas reports.

Flames from the Tenaja fire are burning dangerously close to homes in California. After tearing through 2,000 acres, the fire is only about 10% contained. Hundreds of homes were threatened when heavy winds kicked up the blaze on Thursday afternoon. Some 800 firefighters, facing 90 degree temperatures, attacked the fire with bulldozers on the ground, and water-dropping helicopters from the air. Carter Evans reports.

An American is among two NATO service members killed in the latest Taliban attack in Afghanistan. The car bomb in Kabul on Thursday killed 12 people and wounded 42 others. It's part of a string of attacks launched by the Taliban this week, even as the group is reportedly nearing a peace deal with the United States. Charlie D'Agata reports.

North Carolina's Outer Banks are dangerously exposed to Hurricane Dorian's wind and the potential for a storm surge, and residents are bracing for a possible direct hit. The storm has already caused tornados, including one caught on a doorbell camera. Omar Villafranca reports.
