Berlin says Turkey has stepped up spying in Germany

BERLIN (Reuters) - The German government said on Wednesday there had been a significant increase in Turkish spying in Germany, where tensions within the large Turkish community have escalated ahead of next month's referendum on Turkey's presidency.

The BfV domestic intelligence agency said divisions in Turkey leading up to the April 16 referendum on boosting the powers of President Tayyip Erdogan were mirrored in Germany.

Express tanks after announcing lackluster earnings and guidance (EXPR)

Shares of retailer Express Inc. are down almost 10% during Wednesday's pre-trading session after lackluster earnings and guidance.

The company reported net sales dropped 11% to $678.8 million in the fourth quarter of 2016 while diluted earnings per share fell to $0.29, from $0.67 a year ago.

Comparable sales dropped 13%.

In a Wednesday-morning interview, Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross told Bloomberg the US had been "in a trade war for decades."

Private-sector jobs growth explodes in February, ADP says

US private payrolls surged by 298,000 in February, many more than expected, according to the ADP Research Institute.

Economists had forecast a gain by 187,000 private payrolls, slowing from a 246,000 gain in January, according to Bloomberg.

It was the biggest beat relative to expectations since December 2011, according to Bespoke Investment Group, and the highest monthly gain since January 2006.

Caterpillar slides following a report that accused it of tax and accounting fraud (CAT)

Caterpillar failed to comply with US tax and financial reporting rules in an effort to keep its stock price high, according to a government-commissioned report reviewed by The New York Times.

The Times cited a report prepared by a Dartmouth College professor that investigated the heavy-machinery maker's tax practices.

Japan's economy gets an upgrade

Japan’s economy grew faster than first thought in the final three months of 2016.

According to Japan’s Cabinet Office, real GDP grew by 0.3% in the December quarter, higher than the 0.2% preliminary reading issued in February.

Despite the upgrade, it fell short of the 0.4% figure that had been eyed by markets.

Founded in 2010, Kaggle allows developers and data scientists to run machine learning contests, host datasets, and to write and share code.
