Outdoors: More than just falls at Tenant Creek
[...] it also has advantages — it's a lot less muddy, and the trailhead features a generously sized parking lot with a brand-new outhouse.
[...] the state Department of Environmental Conservation completed the reconstruction, hikers accessed the falls, located in Hope, north of Northville, via a trail on private property (for which the state did not have an easement).
Users were asked to respect the landowner's privacy by staying on the trail and not blocking the driveway; given the lack of consideration shown by hikers in the High Peaks and elsewhere in recent years, I'm guessing these were continuing issues.
There were little, flat, golden brown ones that looked a little bit like pancakes; a few bright white ones that shone against the leaves and rocks on the forest floor; some growing in rounded bumps on fallen logs; and even a few lavender ones at the base of a tree.
[...] don't let the cooler temperatures — or one cranky comment in the trailhead register — keep you from visiting the falls soon and maybe looking for your own fungi discoveries.
