Bogota (dpa) - Pope Francis will make a four-day visit to Colombia in the first part of 2017, Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos said Thursday."In the first trimester of the coming year he will come to Colombia for four days, something which is a great honour," Santos said during a speech at a forum on the petroleum industry.Santos said that he met Thursday with his foreign minister, Maria Angela Holguin, to discuss details of the papal visit. The visit will be the third by a pope to the South American country, following Paul VI in 1968 and John Paul II in 1986.Francis had announced he would visit Colombia in 2017 at the Catholic World Youth Day in Krakow in July. The Argentinian pope, who as cardinal made several visits to Bogota, seat of the Episcopal Conference of Latin America, has repeatedly expressed his support for Santos‘ efforts to bring an end to the armed conflict that had consumed the country since the 1960s.Santos and former adversary Rodrigo Londono of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) signed a peace accord Monday.
