Is Baltimore’s Safe Streets program really worth the price? | READER COMMENTARY
Money going to controversial peer mediation program might be better spent on beefing up police patrols.
Here’s a thought: The concept of Safe Streets, Baltimore’s anti-violence program where workers attempt to mediate disputes and prevent gun violence, has value, but its actual performance has always been questioned (“At Safe Streets oversight hearing, Baltimore leaders lay out vetting process for new hires, priorities looking ahead,” March 7).
Just wondering: Would the millions of dollars spent on overhead for the program wouldn’t be better spent by the Baltimore City Police Department?
