Agent Cooper's doppelganger, also known as Mr. C, is one of Twin Peak's main antagonists. Here are the worst things he's done to earn the title.
When David Lynch's and Mark Frost's Twin Peaks first aired, it seemed as if it's going to be a regular murder mystery. The first episode introduced the show's main character, Agent Cooper from the FBI, who was sent to investigate the murder of a high school student Laura Palmer. What he discovered went beyond the limits of the physical realm and ended up stuck in a mysterious red room.
Agent Cooper's doppelganger, also known as Mr. C, emerged from the Black Lodge in the series finale in 1991 and became the main antagonist in Twin Peaks: The Return (2017). While he isn't among the most bizarre dwellers of the Black Lodge, he turned out to be terrifying. He became BOB's new host, which was revealed in one of the show's scariest moments. His goal was to avoid going back to the Black Lodge 25 years from his initial release and to find out everything there is to know about Judy. He looked just like Cooper, only his eyes were pitch black and he didn't care for coffee at all. (Please note, this list contains dark and mature themes.)
10 He Killed A Dog And Cut Its Legs Off
When Mr. C was arrested, the police found a dog's leg in his trunk. He told the warden: "That dog had four legs. One you found in my trunk. The other three went out with the information you’re thinking about right now. Two people you don’t want coming around here if anything bad happens to me."
But that's not the only creepy thing that transpired when Mr. C was in prison. He threatened warden Murphy by asking him: "Should I call Mr. Strawberry?" and then hacked the prison security system by calling a phone number. Truly a horrible set of actions.
9 He Was Behind Major Garland Briggs' Death
It can't be a coincidence that Major Garland Briggs died around the same time Mr. C emerged from the Black Lodge. Briggs was planning to see Agent Cooper and discuss Project Blue Book, but he must have noticed right away that something was off about him.
Briggs died shortly after in an unexplained fire at the station. Mr. C had to be behind it, as well as the Woodsmen. Finally, Briggs had to know that he was about to die, otherwise, he wouldn't have swallowed the ring that was found in his autopsy.
8 He Manufactured Dougie Jones
Mr. C was supposed to return to the Black Lodge 25 years after his initial release, but he didn't intend to return. He planned for someone else to return in his stead, so he somehow created Dougie Jones.
The silly Las Vegas salesman infuriated many fans who waited for over two decades to see the return of their beloved, coffee-loving Agent Cooper.
7 He Created A Diane Tulpa
Mr. C created a Diane doppelganger who shared all of Diane's memories and traumas, who was was bitter and evil-looking herself. A real aberration.
She told Gordon, Albert, and Tammy that she's not the real Diane and pulled out her gun. The agents responded quickly and shot her before she could kill them. She was transported to the red room where she disappeared into nothingness. The real Diane, meanwhile, was stuck in a gas station. She is one of the few characters who survived the journey into supernatural realms.
6 He Assaulted Diane
In Twin Peaks: The Return, Mr. C visited her in Philadelphia and wanted to find out everything she might know about FBI's work.
They kissed, but as Diane confessed later to Gordon Cole, "as soon as his lips touched mine, something went wrong." He sensed that she knew something was off. She later told the FBI agents that Mr. C raped her and the terrible event clearly shook her to the core.
5 He Was Somehow Involved In The Murder Of Ruth Davenport
Ruth Davenport's murder was one of the most unsettling events in The Return, especially because her body was found alongside Major Brigg's decapitated body. It wasn't Mr. C who was suspected for the murder, though. It was Mr. Hastings, her lover who was interested in alternate realities.
Mr. Hasting's wife Phyllis had some sort of a deal with Mr. C since they clearly knew each other. Upon coming home from visiting her husband in jail, he told her that she "followed human nature perfectly" and then shot her to death in a chilling sequence.
4 He Tormented And Killed Darya
Mr. C was a ruthless killer and didn't spare anyone, not even the young and beautiful Darya. She told him that somebody paid her and her partner Ray half a million dollars to kill Mr. C, but that she didn't know who exactly.
She begged for her life, saying she will leave him alone, but evil Cooper couldn't be persuaded. He shot her in the head and muffled the sound with a pillow without any remorse.
3 He Impregnated Audrey While She Was In A Coma
Reddit's unpopular opinions about Twin Peaks often reference the (romantic) relationship between Agent Cooper and Audrey. The two clearly had feelings for each other, but Cooper refused to make any moves. Unfortunately, his doppelganger had no qualms with it. Horrifically, he raped Audrey while she was in a coma.
She went on to have a child with Mr. C and she knew that Cooper was the child's father.
2 ... And Proceeded To Kill His Son
Audrey and Mr. C's son Richard Horne was a sociopath, so it wasn't really that big of a tragedy when Mr. C killed him. He was one of the worst characters in the show's history. Richard assaulted several women in The Return and worked with drug dealers.
When he identified Mr. C as the man from his mother's picture, the two took a drive to a field right outside Twin Peaks. Mr. C asked Richard to take a tracking device to the top of a rock, where he was then electrocuted and killed. "Goodbye, my son," Mr. C said, as Richard disappeared. Though Richard was evil as well, the whole sequence of his life was a terrible one initiated by Mr. C.
1 He Embraced Being BOB's Host
While Leland Palmer clearly didn't like being BOB's host, Mr. C embraced it as part of his personality. Mr. C is the embodiment of the cold, calculating, and intellectual part of Cooper, just like Dougie Jones is his child-like, enthusiastic part.
Unlike Leland, who literally transformed into Bob, Mr. C carried Bob inside of him. That's why he acknowledged him by saying "You're still with me," when he saw him in a reflection. Excepting this evil showed how terrible he was himself.
