10 Female Characters The DCEU Needs To Introduce | ScreenRant
With successful female-led movies like Wonder Woman & Birds of Prey, DCEU should introduce more female characters. Here are 10 such characters.
DC Comics has plenty of remarkable female characters that can make the DCEU shine more, whether they're the heroes or the villains of the story. For now, this cinematic universe has introduced a few of the most pivotal female characters from the comics: Wonder Woman (2017), in her solo movie from 2017, and Harley Quinn, Katana, and Amanda Waller in Suicide Squad (2016) and characters such as Dinah Lance from Birds of Prey (2020).
Even though they've given the public some amazing stories and movies, Wonder Woman and Harley Quinn have justifiably been in the spotlight for a long time but this is also why the DCEU needs other new female protagonists. Here's a list of DC's most popular and outstanding female characters that can make this cinematic universe thrive some more.
10 Barbara Gordon/Batgirl
Barbara Gordon is the daughter of the Gotham City Police Department Commissioner, James Gordon, and the first Batgirl to exist. Inspired by both Batman and her father, Barbara takes on the vigilante mantle at a young age and uses her skills to fight crime and protect Gotham City.
Even after the infamous and shocking encounter with the Joker in The Killing Joke, in which he shot and half-paralyzed her, she doesn't give up on the fight against crime as she becomes the Oracle and, in the comics, founds the female superhero team known as Birds of Prey.
9 Zatanna
Zatanna Zatara is the daughter of the powerful magician Giovanni "John" Zatara, and she can cast powerful spells by saying the words backward, like her father. Before finding out about her magical powers, Zatanna used to be a successful stage illusionist; however, as she learned more about the magic world, she started using her powers for good, becoming a quite popular heroine.
In the past, she also worked with the Justice League of America; now, however, she is a pivotal member of the Justice League Dark.
8 Hawkgirl
Throughout history, the Hawkgirl name has been taken on by various female characters, typically as counterparts to super-hero Hawkman. Shiera Sanders was the first one to use this name, but the current Hawkgirl is Kendra Saunders.
She is gifted with superhuman strength, the ability to fly due to the psycho-reactive metal of her wings, acute vision, and the ability to self-heal and regenerate. The superheroine has been involved with quite a few superheroes teams, such as the Justice League and the Justice Society.
7 Talia Al Ghul
Although she wasn't a full-on villain in her early appearances, Talia Al Ghul is now one of the greatest criminals in the world. She is the daughter of the international terrorist Ra's Al Ghul, whom she's extremely loyal to, and ex-lover of Bruce Wayne, with whom she had a child.
Talia can be deadly because of her terrific fighting skills; she is also a member of the infamous League of Assassins, which is not the only villainous team she has worked with in her life.
6 Donna Troy/Wonder Girl
Donna Troy is an Amazon super-hero who initially began her super-heroine career as Wonder Girl. She is an important character not only for her abilities and fighting skills but also because she is a founding member of the Teen Titans, a team that she inspired and always stood by.
She has also been involved with other important super-hero teams such as the Justice League of America and the Challengers from Beyond.
5 Lady Shiva
Sandra Wu-San or Lady Shiva can be defined as a literal human weapon because of her incredible fighting skills. She is indeed one of the best martial artists from DC comics, and her passion for combat is what makes her such a great fighter.
She has been an antagonist to both Black Canary and Batman, moreover, she has also been involved with the Birds of Prey and the League of Assassins. She is also the mother of Cassandra Cain, also known as Orphan.
4 Livewire
Leslie Willis, also known as Livewire, is a supervillain characterized by her deadly electricity superpower. She's an antagonist to Superman and not a criminal who is easy to defeat; it would be original and refreshing to see a movie featuring the Man of Steel in which the main antagonist is a powerful female character.
In Batman: The Animated Series, she also got involved with Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy, which would be a great team-up to see in live-action.
3 Jessica Cruz
Jessica Cruz is the first female human Green Lantern chosen as the successor of the Power Ring. She suffers from anxiety and agoraphobia, which she developed due to a traumatic close-to-death experience.
She can be considered a still-new character for she was first created in 2014; nevertheless, she has already been part of the Justice League and proved to be a valuable member and remarkable heroine.
2 Killer Frost
Caitlin Snow, alias Killer Frost, is one of the most popular female supervillains from DC Comics. Caitlin is the third character to use the Killer Frost name and she used to be a scientist at S.T.A.R. Labs before becoming a villain.
She can absorb heat and convert it into ice of various sizes and shapes; moreover, she can freeze any living creature to death. In comics, she's usually an antagonist to the hero Firestorm, but she has also been part of the Suicide Squad as an anti-hero, which can be the team that brings her into the DCEU.
1 Poison Ivy
Poison Ivy is a supervillain and eco-terrorist, a human-plant hybrid who hates humans, especially men, and is capable of controlling plants and the nature around her. She's usually an antagonist to Batman, and she has also been involved with Harley Quinn and the Birds of Prey.
She's one of the most iconic villains from Gotham City, which is why she deserves to be in the DCEU and a chance to fight Batman in live-action once again. She is so powerful and capable as a criminal, that we want to see how she would fare in the DCEU with or without Harley Quinn, though we wouldn't mind some Harley-Ivy romance.
