Johnny Manziel says he ditched his 'John' name change after 5 days
So much for that.
Back in April, Johnny Manziel had some news as he looked to rebuild his professional football career. It had nothing to do with a new team or a potential move to the XFL.
He was going by a new name. He wanted to be called John.
Well, we can now bid farewell to the John Manziel Era because it only took several days for the former Heisman Trophy winner to get tired of the new name.
Manziel joined The Dan Patrick Show for an interview on Monday, and Patrick brought up the “John” rebranding to get an update on the new name. The final ruling was that he’s sticking with Johnny … after all that.
Manziel said:
“Everywhere that I went for the next four or five days, people would come up to me and apologize to me for calling me Johnny. And it took me about four or five days for it to get really, really old being called John. And I transitioned back very, very quickly … Johnny fits me a lot better than John did for sure.”
Manziel added in the interview that he remains open to any opportunity and still has the desire to play pro football.
He was released by the Browns in 2016 and recently had stints in the CFL and AAF.
