Tottenham Hotspur went on an incredible journey in the Champions League this season, but it wasn’t to be in the final as they lost 2-0 to Liverpool.
After three weeks of planning, the game got off to the worst possible start as Moussa Sissoko was judged to have handled the ball in the area inside the first minute.
The resulting penalty was smashed home by Mo Salah, and that set the tone for the rest of the evening.
Spurs went onto enjoy the majority of possession, as the Reds sat in and defended for the title, limiting their attacks to breakaways.
Unfortunately, Tottenham were unable to convert their time on the ball into clear chances, and the clock continued to tick down towards full time.
Liverpool eventually grabbed a second goal through Divock Origi as Spurs committed more men to find that much-needed strike of their own.
The Tottenham lads later took to Twitter to thank the fans:
???? this is not the way we wanted to end the season! A season full of so many positives and incredible performances. We are all gutted that we couldn’t get this one over the line for you all. pic.twitter.com/7VUyE7aX4R
