BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — The Louisiana House has agreed to a 30-year contract extension for Harrah's to operate the land-based casino in New Orleans. Lawmakers voted 78-12 for the measure keeping Harrah's in place at the casino until 2054. The sponsor is Republican House Speaker Taylor Barras. In exchange for the 30-year contract extension, Harrah's would agree to spend $350 million upgrading its facilities, adding new restaurants, building a second hotel and enlarging its entertainment space. Synnex Corp. shares fell in the extended session Thursday after the business process services company's earnings outlook fell short of Wall Street estimates. Synnex shares fell 8% after hours, following a 3.5% gain to close at $118.40 in the regular session. For the second fiscal quarter, Synnex estimates adjusted earnings of $2.25 to $2.35 a share on revenue of $4.58 billion to $4.78 billion. Hundreds of people took part in a Way of the Cross up Is-Salib ta l-Għolja from Siġġiewi to the Laferla Cross on Thursday as part of Maundy Thursday services. The hill was spectacularly lit by a large number of torches (fjakkoli). The activity is an annual event of San Nikola Bank Club. It was started by a group of youths in 1993.  Funeral marches were played by the band near the cross, and a drama group, Carpe Dieme, held a representation of the passion of the Lord as it related to modern times.

NEW YORK (AP) — New York City is investigating whether a private club founded as work space and networking hub exclusively for women violates the city's anti-discrimination law by barring men. The city's Commission on Human Rights started its probe into The Wing after receiving a tip from the public. The inquiry focuses on whether the club violates the city's public accommodations law, which bans discrimination on the basis of gender. ASHLAND, Ky. (AP) — Two people wanted in connection with shots fired at a police officer in Kentucky have been arrested. The Daily Independent reports 28-year-old Frank Jolliff Jr. and Danny Halley were taken into custody at an Ashland residence Wednesday night. Authorities had sought Jolliff for questioning in what they described as the attempted murder of an Ashland officer. TOLLAND, Conn. (AP) — A veteran Connecticut state trooper has been killed in a highway crash involving a tractor-trailer. Democratic Gov. Dannel P. Malloy said Trooper First Class Kevin Miller died in the accident on Interstate 84 in Tolland early Thursday afternoon. The governor ordered state and U.S. flags in Connecticut to be lowered to half-staff until burial or memorial services are held.
