The heavyweight prospect touches on heavyweight topics.
Heavyweight prospect Daniel Dubois is in action this Saturday, facing Richard Lartey at Wembley Arena, with the fight airing live on BT Sport in the United Kingdom and streaming on ESPN+ in the United States.
The 21-year-old Dubois (10-0, 9 KO) spoke with iFL TV about that fight, the British board ordering him to face fellow prospect Joe Joyce, and the Joshua-Miller situation.
On Saturday’s fight with Richard Lartey
“I haven’t heard too much about what he’s got to say. I know we’re ready for Saturday. I’m ready to let all my skills go, what class I have, and just pull it out and perform.”
On whether Lartey is his toughest challenge to date
“On paper, it’s a step up. Yeah. Hopefully it’s a step up, that’s what people are talking about, it being a step up. I’m sure he’s gonna come and I’m prepared 100 percent for a tough challenge. I’m ready to just go out there and perform. How I box will depend on how the fight turns out.”
On being ordered to face Joe Joyce
“I’ve just got to take these challenges on and come through each and every one of them. Joe Joyce is a big fight. It’s definitely a very big fight. It’s another step up. I’ve just got to be ready and be prepared — the Board ordered it, so we’ll see.”
On whether they’ll fight this summer
“It depends. I’ve got to come through this win Saturday and come through in good fashion, then yeah, we can get it on this summer, depending on Frank (Warren) and other teams and whatever goes on that side. But yeah, bring it on.”
On Jarrell Miller’s failed drug tests
“There’s not much you can say. He’s been caught. People are going to condemn him either way, no matter what I say. He probably knows what he was doing. I don’t know if it was a matter of him being that scared or just this is what he does usually — so many other fighters, though, are doing that. It is what it is, he’s been caught.”
On whether he would theoretically step in to face Joshua on June 1
“I never back away from any fight, but it’s down to my team, the people in charge. But I never back away from any fight. If that’s the right amount of time to prepare, the right sparring, the right time — the whole camp would have to be perfect and things would have to be in place, but 100 percent, I’ll face every challenge.”
