Jared Gordon vs. Sean Woodson in the works for May 16 UFC event
The UFC is working on a matchup between Jared Gordon and Sean Woodson for its May 16 event.
Jared Gordon will be fighting on the UFC’s May 16 card, as was originally planned. However, it won’t be against the same opponent he was booked to fight when the card was set to take place in San Diego.
The UFC is finalizing a matchup pinning Gordon (15-4 MMA, 3-3 UFC) against promotional sophomore Sean Woodson.
Wednesday, two people with knowledge of the situation informed MMA Junkie of the in the works booking. They asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement.
The event takes place at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Fla. The card is expected to air on ESPN and stream on ESPN+.
After starting off his UFC tenure winning back-to-back fights, Gordon has experienced some bumps in the road. Over the span of his most recent four fights, Gordon has gone 1-3 – having been knocked out three times.
Gordon was originally supposed to fight Matt Sayles on May 16, prior to the event being moved from San Diego due to the coronavirus outbreak.
As for Woodson (7-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC), the lengthy striker impressed the UFC brass on Dana White’s Contender Series this past summer. His flying knee knockout earned him a UFC deal and set him up for his promotional debut against Kyle Bochniak at UFC on ESPN 6 in October. Woodson defeated Bochniak by unanimous decision.
With the addition, here’s the current UFC lineup for May 16:
Walt Harris vs. Alistair Overeem Eryk Anders vs. Krzysztof Jotko Anthony Hernandez vs. Kevin Holland Marlon Vera vs. Song Yadong Edson Barboza vs. Dan Ige Jared Gordon vs. Sean Woodson
