Prince’s Estate Rejected An Offer For His Music To Appear In The Melania Trump Movie
Melania producer Marc Beckman is speaking up about how hard it was to secure music rights for the film.
He really wanted to use a Prince song, but was rejected by the late artist’s estate, who said Prince would never want his music associated with Donald Trump. Beckman found this “ridiculous”, saying “this is not a Donald Trump film… It’s not political.” He was also rejected by Guns N’ Roses and Grace Jones.
When Beckman couldn’t get consent for the music he wanted, Melania used part of the score from Paul Thomas Anderson’s Phantom Thread (created by Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood) without permission. Greenwood has since asked for the music to be removed from the film.
Beckman thought this was ridiculous too. “It’s funny — Radiohead is one of my all-time favorite bands… For them to have come out publicly and distanced themselves, I think that’s just part of the unfortunate time we’re living in. We went out and created a nice film that doesn’t get into any kind of political policy or anything like that. The music at that moment is so perfect, honestly, I was so thrilled to be able to use it. But, honestly, I’ll still remain a fan and listen to their music every single day.”
Melania has made just $16 million against it’s $40 million budget. Have you seen it yet?
