I scored the ultimate thrift find in the kitchen section for $20 – it was grubby as hell but the best luck I’ve ever had
A SAVVY shopper went on a treasure hunt to the thrift store and cooked up some savings.
He couldn’t believe that he had scored a high-end kitchenware find for a fraction of the cost.
“I was back home from winter break and found what I think is my best ever thrift find – a KitchenAid stand mixer,” said Redditor Jackson Maner.
It might not have been in perfect condition, but it worked all the same.
“This thing was grubby as hell, and didn’t have the bowl or any attachments, but it had the accessory slot cover and screw, and worked perfectly,” he continued.
He was still in shock over the steal.
“Literally the best luck I’ve ever had with thrifting,” he said.
Others were also floored over the frugal buy.
“Nice find! What did you pay for it?” asked one Redditor.
“Twenty dollars,” he replied.
Some wished they had gotten the same deal.
“Good find. I bought one brand new for my mom years ago and she hasn’t used it much, lol,” said one user.
The Redditor knew he had been blessed with the buy.
Most KitchenAid stand mixers sell for between $449.99 and $649.99.
The item is described as offering a bowl-lift design for “maximum stability” as well as ultimate mixing capabilities.
It also boasts 11 speeds and can be used for everything from kneading to mixing, plus shredding and beating.
And he can even choose from over ten types of attachments.
These include the ice cream maker attachment, which sells for $99.99 and claims to make frozen desserts in less than half an hour.
The three-piece pasta roller and cutter set that sells for $219.99 and the $34.99 whip bowl-lift stand will also help you take your cooking game to the next level.
Another Redditor shared their own experience of paying just $14.99 for a Wolf Gourmet Countertop Oven at the thrift that sells for $749.99.
And they weren’t the only one.
One shopper took to Reddit to gush about finding a Le Creuset Fondue Pot for $10.
Yet another Reddit user snagged six Le Creuset finds ranging in price from just $9 to $25.
Why is Le Creuset so expensive?
Le Creuset cookware is on the wishlists of many home cooks and bakers.
But the French brand’s Dutch ovens can cost between $260 and $750, and even a bread loaf pan will set you back $180.
So what warrants such hefty price tags?
Le Creuset’s Dutch ovens are among its most popular items, and they — along with several other pieces of their cookware — are made with high-quality enameled cast iron.
They’re meant to last a long time and even carry a lifetime warranty “to be free from defects in material and workmanship.”
“It’s like, do you really wanna buy a $50 piece of something over and over again, or do you wanna invest in something and know that you’re gonna have it for a long time?” Nate Collier, Le Creuset’s director of marketing and communications, said to Eater.
According to Cookware Insider, 15 quality control officers inspect each of the brand’s items before they’re sold.
Of course, they’re pretty, too, and quite the status symbol.
“You think of it as a simple piece of cookware, but even the silhouette of our Dutch oven is recognizable,” Collier said.
“You could show someone a line drawing without any color, and most people that are familiar with cookware would be able to tell you that it’s specifically a Le Creuset Dutch oven.”
