A THREE-year-old boy has died in a caravan fire while his brother is fighting for his life prompting police to launch a criminal probe.
The older boy, aged four, managed to flee the deadly blaze with his father in the Welsh village of Ffair Rhos – 16 miles south east of Aberystwyth.
According to police, the fire broke out at around 5.35am this morning.
The father and the older boy both suffered burns and the child remains in a “critical but stable” condition in hospital.
The three-year-old was later found dead inside the caravan while the father is in a stable condition, police have said.
Dyfed-Powys Police has opened a criminal investigation into the cause of the fire.
Detective Chief Superintendent Steve Cockwell said: “Our thoughts are with his family at this extremely difficult and traumatic time, and specialist officers have been put in place to support them.
“The Criminal Investigation Department is investigating the cause of the fire and a major incident room has been set up at Aberystwyth Police Station.
“This was a tragic incident, and we will be doing all we can to find answers for the family, whose world will have been torn apart by this morning’s events.”
Anyone with any information that could help officers should call the Criminal Investigation Department on 101, using Storm reference 39 of January 19
