Accompanied by Armenian Parliament Vice-Speaker and Head of the Armenian delegation to PACE Hermine Naghdalyan, Mr Alan Meale (United Kingdom, SOC) and Mr Giuseppe Galati (Italy, EPP/CD), co-rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) for the monitoring of obligations and commitments by Armenia, visited on Wednesday the Memorial to Armenian Genocide victims, Tsitsernakaberd.
The European guests laid flowers at the Eternal Flame and kept minute's silence in remembrance of innocent victims.
Mr Alan Meale and Mr Giuseppe Galati visited the Armenian Genocide museum-institute and saw documentary evidence of the Armenian Genocide.
Mr Alan Meale said that all the states must denounce the atrocities Ottoman Turkey committed against Armenians – the Armenian Genocide. Government must admit historical facts. Public awareness must be raised and schools must provide knowledge about the Armenian Genocide. No effort must be spared to prevent further genocides.
On his part, Mr Giuseppe Galati said that the Council of Europe is doing tremendous work to stabilize relations between states practicing different religions to prevent such tragedies in the future.
