Military balance applies also to liberated regions – Armenian official on Karabakh conflict
The military balance in the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh implies more than just an armament race, a deputy foreign minister said today, calling attention also to the seven liberated regions (surrounding Karabakh).
“Apart from the military potential and the types of existing weapons, there are also other [crucial] factors such as the liberated lands. Thanks to their position, they are really an additional guarantee in terms of ensuring balance,” Shvarsh Kocharyan told reporters.
Meantime he admitted modern weapons’ ponderous role in the maintenance of that balance.
According to Kocharyan, Azerbaijan’s military crimes with different countries lead to an armament race necessitating either renewed negotiations or use of force (by the Azerbaijani side). “But that likelihood is decreasing,” he added.
