MLB Screw Cubs with Insane Overturned Call
What an insane decision by MLB to overturn this safe call. Top of the ninth inning, Cubs trailing 2-1 and right after Ian Happ crushed a solo home run off Pirates closer David Bednar, Cody Bellinger reached first base safely after Pittsburgh shortstop Alika Williams’ throw was ruled late.
The Pirates challenged and the call was overturned. I still have not seen a single fucking replay where we can see that Bellinger was clearly out. Remember, for a call to be overturned, there has be to clear evidence. A 100% image that shows the original call was wrong.
How the fuck was this suddenly called 100% out?!?!
That’s bullshit. Fucking bullshit. Cubs didn’t do anything else in the ninth and lost 2-1.
This was already going to be an annoying loss, but the call from MLB replay officials was the cherry on top of the shit sundae for the Cubs. Mitch Keller completely shut down the offense, as he pitched eight shutout innings and only needed 93 pitches to do so. The offensive game plan was clear for the Cubs, but it backfired big time, as they continued to be aggressive and swing early in counts that led to nothing all night.
Before the Happ solo home run in the ninth, the Cubs had four total hits, but three stayed in the infield against Keller. Happ had a two-out double in the fourth inning that broke up Keller’s perfect game.
Just a frustrating night, but you could definitely see it coming. The Cubs offense has been able to get by because teams have made mistakes on the field, but Friday night was a painful sight to see.
The Cubs have two more games in Pittsburgh this weekend before they begin a huge three-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday at Wrigley Field. After tonight’s loss to the Pirates and if the Brewers hold onto their lead, the Cubs will begin Saturday four games back of Milwaukee for first place in the NL Central.
UPDATE
All right, fine, when you’re wrong, you’re wrong. The call was right. Cubs fans didn’t see this angle, but the Pirates TV broadcast had the view from behind the base. Bellinger was indeed out.
I stand corrected.
