White Sox Fans Waste No Time Complaining About Pedro Grifol
We can now say the 2023 White Sox season is officially underway as fans have wasted no time to complain about new manager Pedro Grifol and his Opening Day lineup against the Houston Astros.
This should not have come as a big surprise, but fans were still irate once the White Sox announced their stating nine behind Dylan Cease. One of the biggest storylines in spring training was how outfield prospect Oscar Colas earned a spot on the Opening Day roster. However, being a left-handed hitter, Grifol opted to turn to utility man Romy González in right field against Astros left-handed starting pitcher Framber Valdez.
That thread is filled with many White Sox fans asking where Colas is and it’s good to see nothing has changed even with a new manager running the show.
In his brief time up in the majors, González has made a handful of starts in the outfield, but those times have been few and far between. However, it’s not like this is Gavin Sheets or Andrew Vaughn situation either, where a guy is completely playing out of position. González has made 82 starts in the outfield throughout his time in the minor leagues.
It’s game one, Sox fans, wait until Grifol keeps doing this to really rip into him because in the long term, Colas shouldn’t be in a platoon.
White Sox vs. Astros Bets
I’m going to use FanDuel’s odds for these bet suggestions.
The Houston Astros are coming in as the 2022 champions, but all eyes for White Sox fans on the Astros will be on José Abreu and you know the former White Sox first baseman wants to show everyone why Chicago made a mistake by letting him go in free agency. This is purely a narrative bet that we’ve all been thinking about since Abreu signed with the Astros.
Bet to make: Jose Abreu to hit a home run (+520)
White Sox starting pitcher Dylan Cease is a strikeout machine. Any time you can get his strikeout total at plus money, do it.
Bet to make: Dylan Cease over 6.5 strikeouts (+122)
As you see across the scoreboard on Opening Day, a battle of aces doesn’t automatically equate to a low-scoring game. These are two good offenses and the White Sox, when healthy, have hit lefties well.
Bet to make: White Sox vs. Astros over 7.5 runs (-110)
