Early on Monday I wrote the following.
A 1.54 ERA this season in 35 innings for the Blue Jays, while striking out 58 and walking only 11? A career 2.68 ERA since making his MLB debut in 2014? Hell yeah, get Ken Giles and really lock down the eighth inning which has given the Cubs bullpen so many problems this year.
Oh wait, what’s that? Giles has a bum elbow?
All righty then! So much for Ken Giles being a possible Cubs trade market.
The Cubs are still working hard to find some more bullpen help and they only have a couple days to get it done.
I mean, the only big name attached to the Cubs is Giants lefty Will Smith. And although it’s not really clear what the Giants will do at the trade deadline, it seems like at least one of their left-handers will be traded.
At this point expect the Cubs to add another reliever, but whoever he may be most likely isn’t going to be a huge splash.
