Crowds gather to demonstrate against Trump
Massive crowds gathered across the Bay Area on Saturday morning a day after President Trump’s inauguration to declare that they will oppose the new president’s agenda wherever they see it opposing them.
The five Women’s March events planned around the region Saturday echoed the main Women’s March held simultaneously in Washington, D.C. — advocating for the rights of women, minorities, immigrants and the poor.
In Oakland, thousands of women, men, and children of all ages gathered, wearing pink hats, holding homemade signs that read “Dump Trump” and “Feminist Dad.”
Ann Seitz, a 67-year-old Hayward resident, posed for pictures in Oakland as she clutched her sign that said Paul Ryan Healthcare Plan.
Organizers said leading up to the marches that their message was purposely broad since they anticipate attacks on their beliefs by not just the president, but the new Republican-controlled Congress.
Both have pledged to cut funding for social services and diminish the right to choose in abortions.
The Women’s March in San Francisco was coincidentally on the same day as the Walk for Life, the annual anti-abortion march in the city, but both sides adjusted the timing of their events to only barely overlap each other with the goal of avoiding conflict.
