Officials said there's no danger of the university closing, but it might have to reevaluate policies on such things as absorbing the expense of the unfunded state Monetary Award Program grants for needy students.
"President (Larry) Dietz has said on several occasions one of the negative impacts of the budget impasse is the terrible message it sends to students who are shopping for a school to attend," Groves said.
The board hopes to set tuition and fees for incoming students at its next regular meeting on May 6, even though it will be challenging to do so without knowing appropriations for fiscal year 2016 or 2017.
