Plaintiffs challenging the Trump administration's cost-cutting measures against a library funding agency have settled with the Justice Department. The American Library Association and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees announced the agreement Thursday. It allows the Institute of Museum and Library Sciences to continue awarding grants and operating programs. The lawsuit, filed last May, aimed to stop the administration from gutting the agency after an executive order labeled it “unnecessary.” The settlement rescinds staff reductions planned for 2025, allowing affected employees to return to work. The plaintiffs will dismiss the case if the government adheres to the agreement.
