Florida state Rep.-elect Emily Gregory is the latest face of Democrats' optimism after she won a special legislative election in President Donald Trump's home state House district. Florida Democrats have been beaten down by years of Republican domination in what was once the consummate battleground state. Now, Gregory's win is the latest flip of Republican-held seats since Trump’s second presidency began. It's giving Florida Democrats new hope they can be competitive again and giving national Democrats hope for November's midterms. Republican congressman Byron Donalds, who hopes to lead his party's ticket as candidate for governor this year, said the latest results doesn't change his plans. His campaign says he'll "deliver real results and defend the Florida Dream.”
