President Donald Trump says he plans to endorse a candidate in the Texas Republican Senate runoff to end the painful primary. But Tuesday is the deadline for a candidate to withdraw from the race and stay off the ballot. Neither Sen. John Cornyn nor state Attorney General Ken Paxton has shown any inclination to bow out of the runoff, after both failed to get a majority of votes in the March 3 primary. Instead, both candidates’ campaigns and the super PACs supporting them launched new attack advertisements. If neither candidate withdraws, it means two more months of a bitter and costly campaign for Republicans. The winner will face Democratic nominee state Rep. James Talarico.
