Seahawks’ Marshawn Lynch has surgery; out for year?
If the Seattle Seahawks are going to make a late charge toward a fourth straight playoff berth, they’ll do it without running back Marshawn Lynch.
Lynch underwent surgery Wednesday to repair an injury related to a sports hernia and will be sidelined for at least three or four weeks.
Seattle will keep the Cal alum on the active roster, but the Seahawks’ playoff hopes now rest in part on rookie Thomas Rawls.
The surgery was the final option to correct an abdominal injury that had bothered Lynch for weeks.
“I certainly hope not,” head coach Mike Pettine said in explaining his decision to demote Manziel because of the quarterback’s off-field behavior.
St. Louis receiver Stedman Bailey was in stable condition at a Miami area hospital after several hours of surgery for a bullet wound to the head.
Bailey, who is serving a suspension for a drug-policy violation, was one of two men shot Tuesday night as they sat in a car outside a home in the Miami area, police said.
NFL vice president of officiating Dean Blandino said head linesman Ed Walker should have stopped the clock at two seconds when receiver Sammy Watkins rolled backward out of bounds without being touched at midfield.
St. Louis QB Case Keenum (concussion) returned to practice on a limited basis after missing one workout.
