NFL: Broncos’ Manning won’t play against Bears
Broncos coach Gary Kubiak is going with backup Brock Osweiler as he tries to get his 39-year-old quarterback healthy.
The only time Manning missed a start in his 18-year career came when he sat out the entire 2011 season following a series of neck surgeries that ultimately led to his departure from Indianapolis and his signing with the Broncos.
Osweiler’s first NFL start will come on his 25th birthday.
Manning is dealing with a variety of ailments, including a torn plantar fascia in his foot, a person familiar with the situation told the Associated Press.
According the ESPN, Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman had surgery Monday on a broken left foot he suffered in New England’s last-second 27-26 defeat of the Giants a day earlier.
Patriots coach Bill Belichick declined to comment on the severity of Edelman’s injury.
Giants’ wide receiver Victor Cruz said he needs season-ending surgery to repair a small tear in his left calf.
The Jets remain hopeful Ryan Fitzpatrick will play Sunday after the quarterback had surgery on his left thumb last week.
